Robonaut 2

The first human like robot to go to space is Robonaut2. This robot was developed by NASA and General motors, USA. It weighs 140 kg and it has a head, torso and two completely functioning arms. Robonaut 2 was launched to space station aboard shuttle discovery. This robot was designed to help astronauts in the space. NASA hopes to upgrade R2 and make it to assist astronauts during space walks and for working along with the engineers inside the space station. The main advantage of human like robots are that they can be used for performing simple, repetitive and even dangerous operations in international space station. Robonaut2 was launched inside the Leonardo permanent multipurpose module with other supplies and equipments for the station and was installed on unity mode. R2 was unpacked ant it is now used in operations inside destiny laboratory for testing purposes. The robonaut2 may be used in future for going out for walk in space.
